Enjoy a Sailing Adventure in Kennebunkport

One of my favorite spots to watch the sunset in Kennebunkport is from the jetty by Colony Beach. And tonight, just as I was heading back to the Maine Stay Inn, a three-masted sailboat came gliding into the mouth of the Kennebunk River. What a sight! At that moment, I remembered that there is no better way to enjoy the sunset than from the deck of one of the local Kennebunkport schooners.

When it comes to exploring the waterways in and around Kennebunkport Maine, there are lots of great options like stand up paddle boarding, kayaking, surfing, canoeing, and sailing. Now, Sailing on Maine Coastit seems like a poor choice to be on the water at sunset in a small craft like a kayak or canoe, but charter sailing companies operate right out of the harbor in Kennebunkport, Maine.

Head right down Pearl Street from the Maine Stay Inn to the Arundel Wharf, where you will find the Schooner Eleanor moored in its slip.

This 55-foot vessel was built by its captain and other local craftsmen right here in Kennebunkport, and they keep this ship in tip-top shape. Captain Rich and his crew will treat you to a peaceful tour of the Maine Coast, where you can snap some Insta worthy pics of craggy coves and sandy beaches, as well as local wildlife.  The captain and crew of this traditional gaff rigged ship (built to specifications of a 1935 boat) will treat all of the passengers to an unforgettable ride. Just don’t forget your windbreaker!

Continue just a short walk down Ocean Avenue away from Dock Square towards the Nonantum Resort, home to the Pineapple Ketch. The Ketch is a bit smaller than the Eleanor but absolutely as lovely. Soda and water are provided for your sail, but you are welcome to bring your own beverage to enjoy aboard. Wine and cheese at sunset, anyone?

So this summer, hit the shore and enjoy the incredible scenery along the Maine Coast with a sunset cruise around Kennebunkport!
