The calendar officially says it is fall, but the thermometer in Kennebunkport says “summer!” With temperatures today reaching well into the 80s and more on the way for tomorrow, we’ve marked the official start to autumn with a true Indian Summer.
Hurricane Jose passed off the New England coastline last week, closing out the summer
season with some breezy and misty weather, but once we bid adieu to Jose, the incredible weather set in! The leaves are beginning to change, and that means that for the last few days, the absolute best way to enjoy the fall foliage is from the beach! The Schooner Eleanor has also been a huge hit, but that is par for the course – I mean, a gentle sailboat ride along the coast? Yes, please!
One of my favorite things about fall is enjoying breakfast on the wraparound porch of the Maine Stay Inn. Often at this time of year, we turn on the heat lamps so everyone is comfy while tucking into their gourmet breakfast. No need for that today! I think we might even have had a few requests for iced coffee at breakfast instead.
Last week, we put away our basket of beach towels from the front porch, thinking that most people wouldn’t be inclined to lounge on the beach now that it’s late September. But we brought them out this weekend because folks were flocking to the soft sand beaches of Kennebunk and Kennebunkport to drink in this incredible weather! But whether you choose to hit the beach, explore Dock Square, or enjoy the leaf peeping with hiking or nature strolls, more incredible weather is in the forecast for this first week of fall here in Kennebunkport Maine!
