Veterans Day is quickly approaching, and all of us in Kennebunkport Maine are looking forward to honoring the nation’s veterans this Sunday (and Monday). And while Veterans Day was initially called Armistice Day in honor of the end of World War I, which occurred on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918, it was renamed in 1954 to celebrate all of those who have served this great country. Although the last surviving WWI veteran passed in 2012 at the ripe old age of 110, we at the Maine Stay celebrate each year with some special Vets!
Through BnBs for Vets, we offer a few rooms for no charge at our Kennebunkport Bed and Breakfast to US Veterans (with a valid ID, of course). But once those complimentary rooms are reserved, we have others for special rates too! We all look forward to our Veterans Breakfast, because the dining room is always filled with incredible stories of service and wonderful people enjoying a much needed getaway.
While there are loads of great ways to celebrate the holiday, we recommend a walk along Parson’s Way, the path from Dock Square out to the Bush Estate. It passes the anchor-shaped monument that commemorates George H.W. Bush’s military service, and offers an incredible view of the Atlantic Ocean! Or stroll downtown to the Dock Square monument where are flag will be flying high against the blue sky. No matter how you choose to spend the day, we will look forward to celebrating with you here in Kennebunkport Maine!
