Exciting Spring Changes in Kennebunkport Maine!

While Spring has seemed a touch on the late side here in Kennebunkport Maine, there are loads of exciting changes all around town that say that summer is definitely on the way! We have woken to chilly temperatures the last few days, but sunny days have meant that the trees are starting to show lots of buds and if you look closely, there are lots of fresh shoots rising in the gardens all around the area. But best of all, some of our favorite seasonal restaurants have opened up for the season!

Boats hit the water for spring in Kennebunkport

Walking through Kennebunkport, you’ll see all kinds of activity as the harbors prepare for the season and boats reappear on the docks. Just a block or so from the harbor, Ryan’s Corner House, our local Irish Pub reopened for the season nearly a month ago – just in time for St. Patrick’s Day (of course!), and their menu has been stellar ever since. Whether you visit for Irish staples like bangers and mash or local favorites like lobster mac and cheese, you won’t be disappointed.

And after getting walloped during some massive winter storms, Hurricane Restaurant reopened for Easter weekend and unveiled their new look. Though they were only closed for about 12 weeks, we certainly missed them in Dock Square! And now that spring really is in the air, the short stroll from the Maine Stay Inn to Hurricane is incredibly pleasant. It shouldn’t be long before you’ll see colorful planters lining the streets of Dock Square and the rails on the Kennebunk-Kennebunkport bridge.

Just down the road from the Maine Stay (about a 10 minute walk or 2 minute drive) and on your way to the great sightseeing spots along Ocean Avenue, you’ll find Mabel’s Lobster Claw – and old fashioned staple that never gets old! With a tremendous classic seafood menu, there is something for everyone. And once it gets a touch warmer, their walk up ice cream window is a real treat!

While Kennebunkport is a truly year round destination, we do sincerely miss the restaurants who close during the heart of winter. And it will be only a few more weeks before the last few open for the season – the last few like Arundel Wharf Restaurant, Nunan’s Lobster Hut  typically open the first week of May! Spring really has sprung in Kennebunkport Maine!
