One of the best Christmas festivals in the nation us underway in Kennebunkport, and the signature Christmas Prelude tree is shining bright in Dock Square. Now in its 36th year, Kennebunkport Maine is transformed into a Christmas wonderland for ten days in the beginning of December.
Originally just the first weekend of December, Christmas Prelude now encompasses the first two weekends and the week in between. This Christmas Festival brings the spirit of the holiday season to life, and this small village on the Maine Coast is transformed into a true winter wonderland. With events ranging from caroling and tree lighting to crazy hat parades and chestnuts roasting on open fires, there is something for everyone to enjoy.
Despite a chilly start the last few days, the winter weather was very, very mild today and is scheduled to continue throughout Christmas Prelude. Thanks, Mother Nature! That means that while there is no snow on the ground, it is absolutely perfect for enjoying all of the outside activities that debut during this great holiday event.
Tonight’s Christmas Tree lighting was beautiful, and there are many more great events in store over the coming days. We’re looking forward to welcoming Santa to town by lobster boat and perusing all of the great craft fairs around town this weekend. And this week we are looking forward to the candlelight tours of the Historic Inns of Kennebunkport. With donations going to our local food bank, we always look forward to opening our doors and sharing holiday cheer for a good cause, plus we love the opportunity to show locals and visitors alike the beautiful renovations we’ve undertaken here at the Maine Stay Inn! But with countless events spanning 12 days, there are ample ways to get into the holiday spirit here in Kennebunkport Maine!
