The holiday season is a spectacular time to visit the Maine Coast and get in the spirit of the season! But it also marks a special time for the Maine Stay Inn – we were introduced to Kennebunkport Maine for the very first time during a Thanksgiving getaway almost 14 years ago. We enjoyed strolling through the beautifully decorated streets of the historic district, dining in some of the area’s incredible restaurants (and many more have joined the dining scene since then), and walking the beautiful beaches on the southern Maine Coast.
This year, we look forward to sharing some of those favorite things with others visit the area on their first visit or fiftieth! Many people know that Kennebunkport is famous for its two week long Christmas festival, which starts December 1, 2016. And since a community doesn’t get transformed into a holiday wonderland overnight, visitors to town during Thanksgiving are always treated to the lights and decorations that make Christmas Prelude so special.
The incredible restaurants around town serve as a perfect spot to enjoy a family Thanksgiving feast or a quiet celebration for two. But since Thanksgiving meals are typically earlier in the day, the Maine Stay Inn is happy to treat guests to light evening refreshments in the evening (usually soup, salad, and a holiday dessert), because a full belly is the best part about the holiday season!
Fortunately, for the Black Friday shoppers among us, Kennebunkport is perfectly situated to enjoy the outlet shopping opportunities both in Kittery and in Freeport. Plus, nearby Biddeford, Maine offers the big box stores to cash in on some steep savings. But best of all, the shops and galleries of Dock Square and Lower Village are the perfect spot to look for unique gifts for the season. But no matter how you spend your Thanksgiving getaway to the Maine Coast, all of us at the Maine Stay Inn are looking forward to kicking off the holiday season with you!
