Christmas Prelude is Underway in Kennebunkport Maine

December 3rd, 2011 by avadmin

Kennebunkport Maine is alive with the activities of Christmas Prelude, and tonight is no exception! Now that the tree has been lit with its signature lobster topper, town looks particularly festive.  That

said, this time of year is always especially cheerful, with Christmas trees lining the downtown area, light posts wrapped in garlands, and historic homes (including our Kennebunkport Bed and Breakfast) sparkling with their Christmas lights.  In 2010, over 9,000 people lined the streets to celebrate the 29th anniversary of Christmas Prelude, and while the total for 2011 hasn’t been tallied yet, estimates are that the 30th year was an even bigger hit!

This afternoon’s activities featured a multitude of craft fairs, shopping extravaganzas, art shows, and, of course, the signature Crazy Hat Parade.  We strolled leisurely from our Kennebunkport Bed and Breakfast downtown, feeling sorry for the lines of traffic unknowingly driving (or attempting to drive) through Dock Square, as the streets were barricaded for over an hour for this annual event. On the bright side though, they got front row seat to this fantastic event!  Crowds lined the street (akin to a miniature version of Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade) while several hundred enthusiastic folks donned on the most ridiculous costumes and hats you could imagine.  Laughter and cheering followed each group, and children were rewarded for their patience and cooperation with candy canes!  For a full recap of images, check out our Facebook album dedicated to Christmas Prelude 2011.

The incredible array of activities continue well into the evening and throughout tomorrow, but if you didn’t make it this weekend there is still some availability to join us next weekend for Prelude Round 2!  Tonight many will enjoy the candlelit caroling at the Franciscan Monastery, festive dinners at our fantastic area restaurants, dancing in Cape Porpoise, and live music.  Now, we’re off for lobster dinner at the Washington Hose Fire Station for an old fashioned lobster bake!  Hope to see you there!

The Kennebunkport Festival has brought much excitement to Kennebunkport Maine during the past five days, as food, wine, and fine art have filled this quaint New England community.  Held the week following Memorial Day, the

Kennebunkport Festival Art Show

Don't miss out on the amazing artwork around town during the Kennebunkport Festival!

Kennebunkport Festival is a wonderful way to kick off summer, and enjoy some of the things that make the area particularly unique as a vacation destination.

Some of the most popular events include the Art of Dining dinners held at some of the stunning private residences that dot the area, the chic After Parties, the Grand Tasting, and Brews and Tunes.  The Art of Dining dinners are hosted by incredible chefs, creating custom meals inspired by renowned area artists.  There’s plenty of opportunity to peep at these gorgeous homes, as well as admire the phenomenal artwork present for the evening (but I must admit that the oogling peaks my interest most!).

No matter where you choose to dine, you can take advantage of the rockin’ parties each night at some of the chicest spots in town.  Some of the hotspots this year were Bandaloop Restaurant and Stripers.  With signature cocktails, light apps and great music, the After Party is a great way to spend the evening in Kennebunkport Maine.

A gorgeous afternoon in Kennebunkport Maine

A spectacular afternoon!

On a gorgeous early summer afternoon, guests and residents alike visited the Colony Hotel, situated about a mile outside of downtown, to view an incredible display of artwork.  While there, many chose not to miss out on the Grand Tasting, with samples from over 60 restaurants and wineries.  Held on their poolside patio, it was the ideal venue for this event.  Casual mingling and noshing was the perfect way to spend an afternoon.  Back in Dock Square, hundreds headed to the marina for three hours of live music.  While burgers and beers were available (hence the name “Brews and Tunes”), many just enjoyed the perfect spring afternoon.

At our Kennebunkport Maine Bed and Breakfast, we’re already looking forward to next year’s Kennebunkport Festival, which is sure to be better than ever.

Kennebunkport Festival Excitement This Weekend

June 2nd, 2011 by avadmin

The Kennebunkport Festival marks the kick-off of summer in Maine, bringing loads of exciting events to Kennebunkport Maine.  For the first time since the inception of this festival, our Kennebunkport Bed and Breakfast isn’t hosting a resident artist for the weekend.  But that doesn’t mean that this event has lost its focus on the arts.  In fact, the artistic presence may be more prominent than ever!  Starting at noon tomorrow, you can admire the creations of over 40 from across the state at the Colony Hotel.  Local artisan and well known fine furniture maker, Bill Huston, is holding an open house at his workshop all morning and into the afternoon.  And in between, make sure not to miss out on the phenomenal galleries that dot the streets of Kennebunkport Maine.

In the evening, watch the sun set over the Kennebunk River, while enjoying incredible caviar, oysters, and an assortment of adult beverages from sponsors such as Morgan wines and Lanson champagne.  But best of all, you’ll enjoy the company and conversations of fellow gastronomes from across the nation!  After dinner, don’t miss out on the Afterparty at Stripers Restaurant.  Savor light apps and signature cocktails from Double Cross vodka, while jamming alongside singer/songwriter Wayne Morphew.

In case you miss the arts displays, you’ll be able to catch them again at the Colony on Saturday. While you’re in that neck of the woods, pop in to the Grand Tasting, where you can enjoy the products of more than 60 fine restaurants and wineries. If this isn’t really your thing, check out Brews and Tunes (sponsored in part by our Kennebunkport Bed and Breakfast).  In the heart of the Kennebunkport Maine marina, located just behind the Pilot House Restaurant, you’ll find an assortment of your favorite local musicians, delectable nibbles, and local brews.  Heartwood College of Art will be the beneficiary of this year’s Plein Air Invitational, a perfect interlude between wine tastings, and other amazing sampling opportunities.  Cap off the evening with the After part at Alisson’s Restaurant, just steps from our Kennebunkport Bed and Breakfast.

This year’s Kennebunkport Festival is sure to be a smash hit, and we’re so proud to be a part of it!

The Kennebunkport Festival is Here!

May 31st, 2011 by avadmin

So you’ve missed Day 1 of the Kennebunkport Festival, but it’s not too late to take part in some or all of the exciting events that make this week so special.  In fact, there’s still room in tomorrow’s “Art of Dining” intimate dinners.  Just

steps from our Kennebunkport Bed and Breakfast lies the Samuel Stairs House.  This stunning manse was built in 1810 and boasts one of the tallest spiral staircases in New England (it’s three and a half stories high!).  Incredible as it might seem, the truly astounding detail is the preserved wallpaper smuggled into the United States during the Civil War.  So while you are enjoying the delectable creations of Kennebunkport’s very own Chef Gary Caron of Stripers Restaurant, make sure to take special note of this historic home.  Even though this building is still a private home (thank you, Longworth family for welcoming the Kennebunkport Festival!), you’ll enjoy the finest selection of wines from Hall Wines.  Not only will your palate be excited, but so will your eyes – on the works of Craig Mooney.  A renowned artist, Craig is featured in the Maine Art Gallery.

Not in the mood for such a formal event?  Don’t miss out on the After Party at Bandaloop Restaurant.  Always a favorite, it is sure to be hoppin’ tomorrow night.  For just $20, enjoy signature cocktails (and they are always amazing), appetizers, and live music.  Plus, there’s more artwork to be enjoyed by Pam DeSantis Tachibana.  Yep, the Kennebunkport Festival certainly is different than any other food and wine festival, and not just because it has the best location imaginable!  Artistic creations are one of the cornerstones of Kennebunkport Maine, and the festival has stayed true to its roots with the incorporation of substantial amounts of incredible artwork from primarily local artists.

Stay tuned, because there’s so much more to come in this year’s Kennebunkport Festival!
