Kennebunkport Maine Winter Activities

Kennebunkport Maine regularly tops the list as one of the nation’s best beach destinations and locales for checking out the fall foliage, but it is also a top 10 winter getaway spot! Some of the things that make Kennebunkport particularly beautiful are the stunning coastal views, the historic homes, delicious dining, and great shopping–and fortunately, those things don’t change with the seasons! A walk on the beach in the winter is breathtaking, and that makes enjoying a luxurious soak in a jacuzzi tub or warming your toes by the fire at our Kennebunkport bed and breakfast that much sweeter. Add in some freshly baked cookies and a steaming mug of tea, coffee or cocoa to top of the cozy winter experience!

And while the dining, shopping, and relaxing activities abound year round, many people overlook the area’s outdoor activities once the leaves have fallen off the trees. Despite the lack of steep slopes for skiing, Kennebunkport Maine is still a great winter sport destination! After tucking into our signature gourmet breakfast, bundle up and head to the beach for an ocean walk – the Maine Coast is spectacular even when it’s covered in snow! Plus, the rocky coastline is just as breathtaking when the weather is cold, so you can enjoy the beautiful architecture along Ocean Avenue while taking in views of the craggy coast – just keep off the rocks, because they do get icy!

More adventurous visitors can head north to L.L.Bean for snowshoe and cross country ski lessons. Good to go without the lessons? Hit the groomed trails at Harris Farm in nearby Dayton Maine. And folks who have their own equipment can head to any of the nearby nature preserves. Laudholm Trust with seven miles of trails leading to stunning coastline, through wooded paths over protected marshes and estuaries, or through acres of open fields with breathtaking views is a personal favorite. The Kennebunkport Conservation Trust has finally joined over 1,000 acres of land to create one of the largest unfragmented tracts of protected land in Southern Maine with ten miles of trails. It might not be waterfront real estate, but you’ll pass vernal pools (although they are pretty frozen right about now!) and have the opportunity to glimpse native fauna during your winter getaway!

A few years ago, downtown Kennebunk opened an covered skating rink and it has been a hit ever since. So pack your skates and head down the road (it’s less than 10 minutes away from our boutique Kennebunkport hotel). And those bruised bums and knees will feel extra good during a recovery soak back at the inn! On a beautiful day like today, there are countless ways to enjoy the winter in Kennebunkport Maine, so don’t let the winter season pass you by without a visit to beautiful Kennebunkport!
