Maine Stay Inn Guest Reviews – A Kennebunkport Bed and Breakfast

February 21st, 2011 by avadmin

Travelers to Kennebunkport Maine often leave their most constructive comments and truest thoughts on their Bed and Breakfast or Inn experience in places that other visitors never get to see – our guestbook and comment cards!  Here they leave notes about needing extra coat Sign the Guestbook in Kennebunkport Mainehooks (done!) or more tissue boxes in the winter (check!).  They alert us to burnt out light bulbs (all set!) and loose door knobs (good to go!).  But guests of the Maine Stay Inn also remind us of how much our dedication to them means about their trip to Kennebunkport Maine.  Truly, the most honest reviews of any Maine Inn, Bed and Breakfast, or small hotel to guide your selection aren’t found on international websites or in guidebooks.  We are all familiar with the millions of review websites out there, each with a mish-mash of helpful and unhelpful comments and perspectives, and all of which leave you little more enlightened than when you first began your search for a Bed and Breakfast. Here are some recent reviews from real guests at our Kennebunkport Bed and Breakfast:

“I had and absolute ball staying here!  This is by far the best B&B I’ve ever stayed at.  Everyone is just so warm, welcoming, and friendly.  The food was amazing!” – B.M.

“We had such a wonderful time!  Our room was great and breakfast was amazing.  You all were so kind we could not have asked for a better stay!” -A.R.

“We want to thank each member of your “team” here at Maine Stay.  We were extremely happy from the first day of our arrival to the last day.  Thank you bunches!” – J.G., C.G.

“Home away from Home.  Only Better!” – R.G., E.G.

Reading comments from guests during their Kennebunkport Bed and Breakfast getaway is a sure-fire way to bring a smile to our faces!  So next time you visit us in Kennebunkport Maine and find yourself glancing at the little card on your bedside table, pick up the pen and jot down a quick note to us – we won’t soon forget it.

Choosing Your Bed and Breakfast Room or Suite

February 20th, 2011 by avadmin

When planning your getaway to a Bed and Breakfast in Kennebunkport Maine, your accommodation choices can often be overwhelming. At the Maine Stay Inn, we have 17 different options.  Combine that with what’s available when and you’ve got a conundrum

Gourmet breakfast at a Kennebunkport Bed and Breakfast

Even fresh peach shortcake can be delivered to your Cottage Suite!

on your hands! So let’s break it down…

Cottage or Main House: One of the things that makes our Kennebunkport bed and breakfast unique is the assortment of Cottage Suites and Inn Rooms.  So if traditional Victorian architecture is up your alley, go for the main house.  Need extra space?  The cottages tend to be roomier, so choose a suite in one of five guest houses.

Room Service: For many couples or families, the ability to have breakfast in bed or in the privacy of their own room is a deal maker (or breaker), and in 10 of the 11 cottages at our Kennebunkport bed and breakfast, gourmet breakfast can be delivered at no charge!  Yep, that’s right – room service for free. If that is on your “must-have” list, then choose cottage suite 2-11.

Fireplaces: During the cooler months here in Kennebunkport Maine, fireplaces are great for warming your hands and setting the mood. Eight rooms at our Kennebunkport Bed and Breakfast are equipped with gas burning fireplaces.  The Garden Room and Deluxe Fireplace Suite (both on the first floor), or Captain Walker’s Suite, as well as Cottage Suites 1-5 and 7 all feature gas fireplaces, some of which are raised – ideal for viewing from bed!  Does your favorite not have one?  Then don’t forget that the living room in the main house is the perfect spot for relaxing with a book, a cup of cocoa, or just lounging on the couch!

Whirlpool Tubs: Sometimes there’s just nothing better than a long soak in the tub!  And that spa-tub sensation you simply can’t get any other way – we’ll even provide the bath grains.  Looking to complete your Kennebunkport Bed and Breakfast experience with a jacuzzi tub for two, then check out Abbie’s Retreat in the main house, or Romantic Cottage Suites 1, 3, and 7.  Standard sized jetted tubs are found in the Deluxe Fireplace Suite and in Romantic Cottage Suite 2.

Hopefully this made picking your perfect Bed and Breakfast room/suite a little bit easier!  If not, shoot us an email or give a call and we’ll help you figure out which room will make your getaway to Kennebunkport Maine and our Bed and Breakfast absolutely perfect.

Kennebunkport Maine Sports Bars for Superbowl Sunday

February 5th, 2011 by avadmin

Even though the Patriots aren’t in tomorrow’s big game, the broadcast tops my “must-see” list, and there’s no better place (aside from the stadium, perhaps) to watch than one of the great pubs around Kennebunkport Maine and our bed and breakfast.  If you’re at all like me and the commercials are just as important as the ball game, the best place for viewing is right on the property of our Kennebunkport inn. Snuggle in bed and watch the game in comfort (and quiet)!  Plus, you’ll have control over the remote, meaning an HGTV interlude won’t earn you eternal ridicule (well, not by me at least!).  But if a big crowd, bowls of chili, and pints of beer are more your style, head over to Federal Jack’s Brew Pub, the home of Kennebunkport Brewing and Shipyard Ale.  Watch them play on a plethora of big screen TVs, while sipping on one of seven beers brewed on site.  Nachos, wings, and chili – essentials for any football party – are staples on the menu. Want to walk?  Try Alisson’s Restaurant, with a cozy bar area but ample televisions of Superbowl proportions.  Located in the heart of Kennebunkport Maine and just a 3 minute walk from your Kennebunkport bed and breakfast, it is smaller and quieter than Fed’s, but sure to be hoppin’.

More concerned about noshing while watching?  Test out Pier 77‘s The Ramp, with gourmet pub fare and a charming atmosphere.  The TVs might be on the small side, but its waterfront setting and great food more than compensate. Feile, an Irish Pub on Route 1 in Wells, sits just over the Kennebunkport border, less than a 10 minute car ride from the inn.  With four big screens in the tavern, there’s no bad seat in the house – and no bad thing on the menu!  Choose pub fare or a traditional Irish feast, and you’re sure to leave full, even if

your team falls short.

Run of the Mill in Saco is a bit further from your Kennebunkport bed and breakfast, but the crowd will likely be larger – just like their portions.  Sebago Brewing in Kennebunk offers viewers a similar atmosphere and menu selection.  Though not open on Sundays, the Kennebunk Inn has an intimate bar area that’s great for watching a game – plus you can get a great bowl of gluten-free haddock chowder.  Yum!

So when planning a weekend getaway next winter, consider Kennebunkport Maine on Superbowl weekend – for a great game, great food, and great service.

Exploring Kennebunkport Maine for a Winter Getaway

January 31st, 2011 by avadmin

Kennebunkport Maine may be one of America’s top beach destinations, but it is also the perfect spot for a romantic winter getaway. Yes, cozying up by a glowing fireplace or enjoying a luxurious soak in a jacuzzi tub at our Kennebunkport bed and breakfast may be a given during the winter months, but outdoor exploration is one of our favorite, and often overlooked, activities.

Kennebunkport trails in the winter

A Laudholm Trust Trail at Dusk

After breakfast, bundle up and head to the beach for an ocean walk – Maine’s coastline is just as spectacular when it’s covered in snow! You can brave the elements at Parson’s Beach or Goose Rocks, or enjoy a stroll on the paved path flanking the Kennebunk beaches. Then head back to our Kennebunkport bed and breakfast to warm up with steaming mugs of cocoa in front of the fire.  More adventuresome folks can head north to L.L.Bean for snowshoe and cross country ski lessons or bring their own and blaze a trail at one of many Kennebunkport Maine nature preserves.  Check out Laudholm Trust for seven miles of trails leading to stunning coastline, through wooded paths over protected marshes and estuaries, or through acres of open fields with breathtaking views.  With vistas like that, even I think I could be a farmer!  The Kennebunkport Conservation Trust has finally joined over 1,000 acres of land to create one of the largest unfragmented tracts of protected land in Southern Maine with ten miles of trails.  Though it’s not waterfront, you’ll pass vernal pools and have the opportunity to glimpse native fauna during your winter getaway!

Not a snow bunny?  Bring your skates and enjoy old-fashioned fun on our backyard skating rink!  The jacuzzi tub in your Kennebunkport bed and breakfast room/suite is always welcome relief to sore muscles and bruised bottoms!  But don’t miss out on this great winter getaway activity if you don’t own skates or they won’t fit in the suitcase – Westbrook Skating Rink in Biddeford Pool offers outdoor skating and skate rentals.

Don’t let this glorious winter slip away without exploring the great outdoors – even if you’re not a fan of the slopes!  So pack your bags and head to Kennebunkport Maine for a bed and breakfast experience to remember.

Kennebunkport Maine is full of romantic dining options, and since we have dined at nearly every restaurant in the area, we are more than happy to suggest the perfect spot for you.  To make their birthday getaway especially luxurious, consider dinner at the White Barn Inn, with a romantic atmosphere and fine cuisine.  For a lower key evening and great food “without pretense” (in their own words), Bandaloop, is a great choice.  Located just steps from our bed and breakfast, Bandaloop is situated in the heart of Kennebunkport and offers natural foods and inventive entrees.

A Winter Beach Walk

January 10th, 2011 by avadmin

Kennebunkport winter getawayThe sun finally broke through after a stretch of unusually cloudy days last week, inspiring me to leave our Kennebunkport inn for a quick beach walk.  I headed just over the bridge into Kennebunk for a stroll along Parson’s Beach.  As private property, it has remained almost entirely unspoiled, with about six homes visible from the shore.  While some might think a winter walk is crazy, it is one of my favorite winter activities in Kennebunkport, Maine.  Sure, it’s about fifty degrees cooler than swimming weather, but the beach is just as beautiful, if not more so, in the winter than the summer.  The snow reflects lightKennebunkport romantic weekend getaway light a mirror, the sands are free of other footprints, and the sun feels especially warm on your skin.  Well, the skin that’s not covered with layers of fleece, wool, and Gore-tex!  If not for the snow peeking through beach grass, you’d hardly know that it wasn’t July!  So when visiting a Maine bed and breakfast for your next romantic weekend getaway, make sure not to miss a walk on the beach – but bring your mittens!

It's Finally Here!

Lace up your skates!

…A skating rink at the Maine Stay Inn, our Kennebunkport bed and breakfast!  Mother Nature wasn’t exactly cooperative in Kennebunkport Maine during the last months of 2010, but the nights have finally been chilly enough to turn our makeshift wading pool until a skating rink.  So while still on the small side (it takes time to build up the base and overcome unevenness in the ground), it is finally skate-able!  Johanna, a former figure skater, took it for a spin – literally – to make sure it was up to par.  It’s still growing and hopefully by the end of the week will reach its full size – bring on the fun!

Now there’s another great reason to visit our Maine inn for your romantic getaways this winter – good old-fashioned outdoor fun, right in our backyard.  After an afternoon of skating, head inside for steaming mugs of cocoa or a hot cup of coffee in front of the living room fire.  Or, if you’ve taken your share of tumbles, perhaps retreat to your room for a soak in your jacuzzi tub.  Don’t forget your skates!

    Winter Dining In Kennebunkport

    January 4th, 2011 by avadmin

This morning at breakfast, a family from the UK asks what brings guests to Kennebunkport, Maine and our Kennebunkport bed and breakfast during the winter months.  While I chuckled to myself at the irony of the question, my first thought was “Food!”  In my first visit to Kennebunkport, also during the wintertime, eating well was one of the primary goals, so I suppose this response was not unexpected. However, dining still remains one of my favorite activities in Southern Maine.

So to allay the uncertainties of wintertime visitors to Kennebunkport, here is a collection of my favorite area eateries open for business this season:

This is just a selection of favorites, and is by no means comprehensive.  Now, warm weather sometimes calls, so make sure that your favorites haven’t decided to go for a winter warm up!
