Tours of the Wedding Cake House Have Begun!

On my way to our Maine Bed and Breakfast each day, I pass the Wedding Cake House, which could very possibly be the most photographed private home in Maine.  It’s beyond incredible.  Now, since my architectural knowledge is really pretty advanced, I just know that those twizzles and twirlies and intricately carved doo-hickeys are pretty snazzy!  Okay, I basically know that a house has a roof and walls, but this one is amazing.  It’s hard to believe that this home (and it… Read More

Visiting the Best Beaches in Kennebunkport

Every day at least one guest at our Maine bed and breakfast asks which is the best beach in Kennebunkport, and that is never a question I can answer!  The problem is simple – they are all lovely!  But fortunately, each is “best” for something.  So here’s my attempt at explaining them and why they are so excellent: Colony Beach: Less than a half mile from the inn, this beach is definitely walkable, which is a huge perk for folks who want… Read More

Tips for Planning Your Maine Summer Vacation

It’s that time of year again – time to plan your Maine summer vacation!  Most people can’t just spontaneously jaunt off for a couple of days along the coast, so taking that fun trip means planning.  Now, that’s not my favorite thing, especially because time is always at a premium.  But since you’ve already decided to hit coastal Maine for your vay-cay, I’ve put together a few questions to help guide your efforts. When?  July and August are prime time in Kennebunkport… Read More

Stargazing at a Maine Bed and Breakfast

This evening as I was walking from one of the cottages to the main house of our Maine bed and breakfast, I looked up and saw an incredible array of constellations in the night sky.  It is indeed a very clear night, but there was little ambient light pollution to detract from the natural beauty in the night sky.  Yes, the cupola was lit up, as it is every night, but that didn’t seem to hinder the bright glow of the stars.… Read More

Kennebunkport Maine – Perfect for Your Summer Vacation!

I may be a little biased, but I think Kennebunkport Maine is the perfect spot for your Summer Vacation!  Seriously, though, Kennebunkport is the ideal spot to spend a holiday.  As a kid, my family tried out oodles of vacation destinations throughout New England, and only visited the Kennebunks during the winter (which is also pretty great, I might add!), never finding that special spot that had everything we wanted. Soon after moving to the area, we discovered the error of our… Read More

A View From the Bridge

Yesterday I wrote about the best places to watch the sun set in Kennebunkport, Maine, and sure enough, I saw the most incredible sunset from one of my suggested spots last night! Walking from the Maine Stay Inn and Cottages, your favorite Kennebunkport bed and breakfast, we noticed the sky glowing brilliantly.  Upon arriving at one of many excellent Kennebunkport Restaurants, we discovered that a minor air conditioning malfunction meant that we had some time to kill. We arrived at the Kennebunk/Kennebunkport… Read More

Summer Sunsets

Kennebunkport, Maine may face east, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t great spots to watch the sun set.  So pop the cork on your favorite bottle of wine and snuggle into your favorite sweatshirt as you watch a glowing sunset in the ocean breeze. Here are the top five viewing spots: St. Ann’s Episcopal Church – Regardless of your denomination, St. Ann’s sits on prime real estate.  Overlooking the Atlantic, you can see all the way down the Southern Maine Coastline, and… Read More

America’s Best Beach Towns

AOL Travel has just discovered something that we have known all along – Kennebunkport is one of America’s best beach towns!  Though they mention our incredible beaches and great shopping, their short blurb just can’t capture all that makes Kennebunkport the perfect place for your summer vacation. Yes, the beaches here are breathtaking.  Parson’s Beach is one of the most spectacular stretches of sands I have ever seen.  Gooch’s beach lingers for nearly a mile with soft, white sands, while Middle Beach… Read More

A Rare Sight on the Kennebunk Beaches

The Southern Maine beaches are glorious in any weather, during any season, and a recent walk revealed one reason why.  The first few days of May have brought us characteristically New England weather – a little of everything.  A few days ago, while walking along Gooch’s Beach in Kennebunk, in between some scattered showers, an unusual sight caught my attention.  Right now, as a result of our wild early spring storms, the sand level is very high along the retaining walls, but… Read More
