Budget Friendly Getaway to A Kennebunkport Bed and Breakfast

November 9th, 2012 by Judi Hauer

November marks the start of a very special time of year at our Kennebunkport Bed and Breakfast, and we don’t mean the holiday season!  I mean, now that the Halloween decorations have been packed away and the grocery stores’ piles of clearance candy are finally dwindling, I suppose it isthe start of the holidays, but what it means for us is that it’s Third Night Free time!  Yes, it’s true!

Kennebunkport Bed and Breakfast winter getaways

A snow-covered scene in Kennebunkport!

From now through April 1, you can enjoy an especially budget friendly getaway to the Maine Stay Inn (certain holiday periods excluded, of course).  Now, whether you are looking for a foodie-filled retreat from daily life, or are spicing things up with a romantic escape with that special someone, our Kennebunkport Bed and Breakfast has just the thing you need!  So curl up by the fire, warm up with a freshly baked cookie and some cocoa, or indulge in a long, leisurely soak in your whirlpool tub during your three night escape, because two just isn’t enough!

We’re happy to suggest just some great indoor and outdoor activities, so no matter the weather your days can be as full as you want them.  Cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, or hiking might be top on your agenda, but if something more leisurely is up your alley, consider a horse-drawn sleigh or carriage ride, visit to one of the area’s art galleries or museums, or even just a snuggle by the fire.  No matter what you choose, anyone at our Kennebunkport bed and breakfast is more than happy to suggest the perfect spot for dinner out… or dinner in if you’re just that relaxed!  There are a few restaurants in the area that offer a delivery option and, especially at this time of year, the ability to grab ‘n go.  And since every couple deserves a chance for a rejuvenating getaway that’s also friendly on your wallet, so visit us this winter for two nights and get your third night free!

New England Bed and Breakfasts Receive the “Red Chair”

August 23rd, 2012 by Judi Hauer

Many of you know that the Maine Stay Inn has been eagerly awaiting the arrival of a very special visitor – the traveling red chair.  It began its journey on Cape Cod, and has since traveled to many New England Bed and Breakfasts, experiencing iconic destinations

throughout the region.  Over the past few months, it has spent three or four days at a time relaxing at B&Bs throughout the area.  As the hosts of the red chair, we have just a few obligations – to show treat the chair as a cherished guest, showing them all around our community, and take pictures of the red chair enjoying the setting.

So on day one (today), I began to get used to some of the weird looks I got,I hauled this rather heavy wooden red chair through town.  Because the weather was glorious, I decided that this was a great excuse to go to the beach.  And, since I was feeling

especially adventurous, I decided to introduce the chair to Colony beach for a shot on the jetty.  Unlike our human guests, though, I was worried that the salt water might damage the finish, so I placed it just outside the reach of the waves.  Considering that this image was taken from a dinky little iPhone camera, it’ pretty impressive that this little Red Chair takes such a good pic!  That just goes to show you how spectacular the coastline and New England Bed and Breakfast destinations really are.  So stay tuned for more images and explorations of the Red Chair during this visit to our New England Bed and Breakfast!

Kennebunkport Bed and Breakfast to Host Garden Tea Party

June 6th, 2012 by Judi Hauer

As part of this weekend’s Kennebunkport Festival festivities, our Kennebunkport Bed and Breakfast is getting ready to host a fun tea party in our backyard!  In addition to a variety of teas (both hot and chilled!), we’ll be bringing out lots of traditional teatime favorites. Think English inspired – miniature lemon pound cakes with fresh lemon curd, scones and oh-so-indulgent clotted cream,

Our wrap-around porch and big backyard are perfect for this weekend's Garden Party!

and cucumber-mint sandwiches!  So guests will be able to soak up some rays while relaxing on the lawn and enjoying fun finger foods. Plus, guests of the Maine Stay Inn and the other Historic Inns of Kennebunkport can take advantage of complimentary limousine service between the inns.  In fact, each one will be hosting their own garden party, and each serving a different beverage (some, like us, serving teas for a light afternoon refresher, while others have chosen different wines as a pre-dinner cocktail session) along with tasty treats.

And given the spectacular weekend forecast, it’s sure to be an awesome event!  So not only will visitors have the opportunity to enjoy the great food and, of course, great company of other guests and staff members from each Kennebunkport Bed and Breakfast, but it will be a fantastic chance to admire some of most historic and quintessentially New England spots in town.  Plus, with transportation provided, you won’t have a care in the world.  And because of this Kennebunkport Bed and Breakfast garden party, you won’t have to worry about lunch!  Yes, breakfast has been planned to be especially hearty and will certainly carry you until the fun finger foods come out in the afternoon.  So hit the beach, enjoy the art galleries, or hit up the great boutiques in town, but whatever you do, don’t miss the Garden Parties!

Our Kennebunkport Bed and Breakfast Honors Veterans

November 11th, 2011 by avadmin

As a way to thank members of our military, both active and retired, for their service to this great nation, we donated several rooms at our Kennebunkport Bed and Breakfastto veterans and their families last night.  For the second year in a row, we have woken up on Veterans’ Day to a dining room full of folks who have done us all a great service.  We were honored to listen to some of their fantastic stories and share their company.  Last night, we were proud to host 18

military members and their spouses – it was such a treat!  We can’t wait to participate next year – but, vets, please remember to reserve your room early, as they get snatched up quickly!

Our Kennebunkport Bed and Breakfast proudly joined the ranks of 340 other US Inns and B&Bs, as well as 215 Canadian establishments, to host veterans for no charge last night.  In 2008, a variety of inns in West Virginia banded together to pay homage to members of the military with their “B&Bs for Vets” program.  The program has grown each year since, and in 2010, the Maine Stay joined over 900 inns participating in the program.  This year, the Professional Association of Innkeepers International took over the program, incorporating it into their Better Way to Stay campaign.  Yes, this certainly shows that bed and breakfasts are a lodging choice a head above the rest – with a sense of character and honor.  I mean, seriously, when was the last time a big hotel gave away something for free?  And to top it off, we dished up a favorite cold weather breakfast feast – oven coddled eggs over herbed mashed potatoes, decadent raspberry quick bread, thick slices of country ham, and a fresh fruit started.  Delicious!

But the most satisfying part was witnessing the sheer pleasure it brought to our guests – their smiles were certainly thanks enough.  We can’t wait for next Veteran’s Day in Kennebunkport Maine!

Kennebunkport Festival Excitement This Weekend

June 2nd, 2011 by avadmin

The Kennebunkport Festival marks the kick-off of summer in Maine, bringing loads of exciting events to Kennebunkport Maine.  For the first time since the inception of this festival, our Kennebunkport Bed and Breakfast isn’t hosting a resident artist for the weekend.  But that doesn’t mean that this event has lost its focus on the arts.  In fact, the artistic presence may be more prominent than ever!  Starting at noon tomorrow, you can admire the creations of over 40 from across the state at the Colony Hotel.  Local artisan and well known fine furniture maker, Bill Huston, is holding an open house at his workshop all morning and into the afternoon.  And in between, make sure not to miss out on the phenomenal galleries that dot the streets of Kennebunkport Maine.

In the evening, watch the sun set over the Kennebunk River, while enjoying incredible caviar, oysters, and an assortment of adult beverages from sponsors such as Morgan wines and Lanson champagne.  But best of all, you’ll enjoy the company and conversations of fellow gastronomes from across the nation!  After dinner, don’t miss out on the Afterparty at Stripers Restaurant.  Savor light apps and signature cocktails from Double Cross vodka, while jamming alongside singer/songwriter Wayne Morphew.

In case you miss the arts displays, you’ll be able to catch them again at the Colony on Saturday. While you’re in that neck of the woods, pop in to the Grand Tasting, where you can enjoy the products of more than 60 fine restaurants and wineries. If this isn’t really your thing, check out Brews and Tunes (sponsored in part by our Kennebunkport Bed and Breakfast).  In the heart of the Kennebunkport Maine marina, located just behind the Pilot House Restaurant, you’ll find an assortment of your favorite local musicians, delectable nibbles, and local brews.  Heartwood College of Art will be the beneficiary of this year’s Plein Air Invitational, a perfect interlude between wine tastings, and other amazing sampling opportunities.  Cap off the evening with the After part at Alisson’s Restaurant, just steps from our Kennebunkport Bed and Breakfast.

This year’s Kennebunkport Festival is sure to be a smash hit, and we’re so proud to be a part of it!

Just Around the Corner: the Kennebunkport Festival

May 27th, 2011 by avadmin

With Memorial Day Weekend off to a great start, all of us in Kennebunkport Maine are looking forward to next week’s exciting event – the Kennebunkport Festival.  This kick-off to summer has been around for several years under a variety of names, including Arts in the Inns and the Kennebunkport Fine Living Festival, but this year the reins have been turned over to Maine Magazine.  Despite all the changes, the Kennebunkport Festival is celebrating the start of the summer season with a five-day party honoring the best of Maine living – incredible food and wine, warm hospitality, fantastic artwork, and an amazing destination – Kennebunkport Maine.

From May 31-June 5, enjoy the finest things in life (while some events have sticker prices to match, others are free!) in a destination you already know you love – or one you are just beginning to discover.  The beauty of the Kennebunkport Festival is that you can pick and choose your involvement – stay for five days and indulge in outstanding private dinners in area mansions, or come for a night and enjoy great craft beer and live bands.  There’s something for

everyone!  Some folks might favor events like Oysters and Pearls or the Grand Tasting, while others may prefer the lively After parties at some of Kennebunkport’s hippest restaurants or Brews and Tunes (sponsored by the Historic Inns of Kennebunkport, of course!).

And don’t forget, ticket holders will receive 50% off their third night at our Kennebunkport Bed and Breakfast, perfectly located to enjoy all of the Kennebunkport Festival!  Walk to great dining (and, more importantly, the rockin’ After parties), live musical performances, and phenomenal tastings sure to excite your palate.  But don’t neglect your other palette – your artistic one!  With amazing artists and galleries filling the town, you’re eyes won’t be neglected. We hope you’ll join us next week for this incredible event – enjoy!

Kennebunkport Bed and Breakfasts' Cookie Tour

April 15th, 2011 by avadmin

This Saturday, guests of the Maine Stay and three other Kennebunkport Bed and Breakfasts will be treated to a great springtime event – the cookie tour!  They’ll have a little time to kill between our gourmet morning meal and this fun afternoon activity, so I will suggest a visit to the newly re-vamped River Tree Arts.  A fantastic new exhibit called

Strolling from inn to inn is perfect - for burning off those delectable treats!

“Splendid Splashes” that is definitely worth checking out, and while you’re there, make sure to catch the free classical music performance (although donations will be gladly accepted) arranged by the Portland Symphony Orchestra librarian.  Keep it mind, the theater only seats 90, so get there early! On your way back, stop in at Ryan’s Corner House, the newest Kennebunkport restaurant to open.  We’ve yet to try it, but how wrong could a real Irish pub run by a real Irish family be?  If art’s not your thing, check out the plethora of activities going on for EcoDay at Laudholm Trust.  Particularly active guests might have an interest in the 5K trail run through one of my favorite spots in Southern Maine.

Once your belly is full (or full of non-sweets) head back to your Kennebunkport Bed and Breakfasts for the tour starting around 1pm.  Each inn will feature their signature cookie!  The Maine Stay Inn will, of course, be offering a gluten free option – our ambrosia macaroons.  Captain Jefferds Inn will whip up their favorite, a cranberry oatmeal number, while Captain Lord Mansion will serve a Maine staple – whoopie pies.  Captain Fairfield has yet to decide, but it’s sure to be delicious!  There’s no tastier way to spend an afternoon than sampling these delights at some great Kennebunkport Bed and Breakfasts.

Freeport, ME – March 21, 2011 – Some of the finest Maine Bed and Breakfasts, Inns, and Resorts will slash their rates by 50% this spring to support Hospitality for Habitat, a Maine Innkeepers Association (MEIA) program that raises funds for local chapters of Habitat for Humanity, announced Greg Dugal, Executive Director of MEIA. Participating Innkeepers all over the state will reduce room rates by half between April 25th and May 27th, 2011 for guests willing to write a $35 donation check payable to Habitat for Humanity.

“Every dollar donated goes to help build homes in Maine for deserving families,” said Dugal. “Travelers taking advantage of the Hospitality for Habitat program have been very generous over the years, and seem to enjoy this opportunity to stay in the best Maine Bed and Breakfasts, resorts, and hotels at greatly discounted rates.”

This is Hospitality for Habitat’s eighth year, and the program has grown each year since its start up. In 2010, despite the challenging economic climate, Innkeepers and their guests raised over $21,000 for Habitat projects. The Association has donated over $51,000 to Habitat for Humanity since the program began in 2004.

“We are grateful to the Innkeepers and their guests who continue to support this program each year, stated Dugal. “It really is a win, win. This fundraiser helps to bring visitors to the state during what is traditionally a slow time for tourism, gives visitors an opportunity to stay at wonderful properties at terrific rates, and supports a great cause.”Hospitality for Habitat at Maine Bed and Breakfasts
