What Should I Do In Kennebunkport?

One of the things that people ask often is “What should I do in Kennebunkport?” and the answer should really be that you can do almost anything!  Of course at this time of year, there are millions more fun activities to enjoy in town, both indoors and out.

And since I suggested some fun indoor activities a few days ago, here are some of our favorite things to do in the area that take advantage of the great outdoors (which are even better when it is as beautiful as it was today!).  Now, we all know that Kennebunkport and Southern Maine are known for the beautiful beaches, so enjoying some fun

in the sun is pretty much a given.  But we are so lucky to have so many stunning beaches close to the Maine Stay Inn, and each really has its own identity – some are great for families, some for romantic snuggles on the sand, some for nature lovers and even some for those who’d rather avoid the sand all together!  Now, it would be a total cop-out to only address the beach in this blog, but it is definitely a “must mention.”

Whether you’re interested in donning on a swimsuit or not, the truth is that the Maine coast is far to beautiful not to experience.  So how should you experience it if you’re not a beach-goer?  A lot of visitors to Kennebunkport enjoy exploring by bike (whether one they bring themselves or ones rented here in town), and truthfully, this is a great way to see lots of the Maine coast, grab some exercise, and soak up some sunshine!  If you don’t want to haul a bike up to Kennebunkport for a few hours of riding, Kennebunkport Bicycle Company and Coastal Maine Kayak both offer great rental options.  Not a fan of riding a bike?  Try renting a scooter for a day or a few hours!  It’s a great way to explore Goose Rocks Beach and Biddeford Pool without worrying about finding a parking spot – you can sneak in one of those mopeds almost anywhere!

It might surprise you to learn that Kennebunkport actually has lots of conservation land, as do the surrounding communities – you could explore a different trail or parcel of land every day for months and not see all of them!  You may know that one of our favorite areas is the Wells Reserve at Laudholm Farm, and with beaches, fields, trails, and estuaries, there is so much to see and explore.  But in Kennebunkport itself, you can enjoy vigorous hikes or scenic strolls on any of the Kennebunkport Conservation Trust properties.  If you somehow have more energy, the Kennebunk Land Trust has dozens more trails to explore. But there’s only one place I know of that lets you see both the mountains and the ocean, and that is Mount Agamenticus!  A little to our south, it’s a great spot for a day hike, where you can really work up a hearty appetite for a delicious lunch.  The truth really is, though, that no matter what your interests, there is always plenty to do in Kennebunkport!
