It’s hard to believe that I first set foot in Kennebunkport Maine 11 years ago today, during a family Thanksgiving getaway. Much like it is today, the town was aglow with Christmas lights and garlands adorning the Kennebunk River bridge and the lamp posts around town. But there is one striking difference – it was covered in snow! And despite today’s wind and steady rain, temps topped the 60 degree mark. Too bad it wasn’t sunny, right? That would have called for a full on beach day (kidding… kind of). I remember breaking out my boots and going for a stroll along the street of the Kennebunkport Maine historic district, admiring the beautiful Christmas decorations and incredible historic architecture.
Despite being away from home, my family celebrated Thanksgiving together, around a table in one of the many incredible restaurants, feasting until we couldn’t manage another bite. Sounds about right, no matter whether you’re home or away! And in the evening, after most restaurants have finished their Thanksgiving supper service, my family and I gathered around a table with other visitors to Kennebunkport during the holiday. It was a tradition we loved, and one that we’ve continued as innkeepers of a Kennebunkport Maine bed and breakfast. So tomorrow evening, we’re looking forward to joining family and friends (new and old) for some delicious light fare around our dining room table. A Kennebunkport Maine Thanksgiving quickly became our family tradition, and we look forward sharing this special day with so many others – Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!
