Most of you know that at the Maine Stay Innwe are pretty big fans of the Wells Reserve at Laudholm Farm, and that certainly doesn’t change at this time of year. In fact, we probably love it even more! I mean, with the glorious colors and crisp breezes, how could we not? Of course, we love just wandering through the seven miles of trails on this incredible piece of property, meandering down to the shoreline, where the pristine beach just begs for a stroll. But fall in New England also means the return of some great
programming, with opportunities for the whole family. Here are just some of the great upcoming events that you’ll find at the Wells Reserve this month:
- Wood lot harvesting – ever wonder what the right way is to deal with invasive species? Need to clear some trees or miscellaneous fauna in your yard? Find out from the pros how to do it right!
- Tracking the Migration of Shorebirds in the Western Hemisphere – We all learned about avian migration in, oh, about the second grade and love when the birdies return each spring. Here in New England the chirping come April is a very welcome sound! But there are three bird species that have to overcome pretty substantial hinderances to their annual trek. So check out the latest movie about their journey and learn how communities can help these critters!
- Fun with Fungi! I know I love mushrooms (and hope you do too), but they’re certainly not all edible, so enjoy a tour of the property while learning about native New England fungi.
- Get your spook on with an Owl Prowl with Owl Banding. Enjoy an evening walk and lesson in calling for owls, as well as a live demo on banding these flying friends.
Fortunately for us and for visitors to Kennebunkport, this is just a selection of some of the great events celebrating fall in New England this month at Laudholm Farm. We hope you’ll get a chance to enjoy some of them!
