A Fun Shopping Weekend in Kennebunkport

We all know that a fall getaway to Kennebunkport is a great opportunity to take in the sights and sounds of a seaside village.  With blazing foliage displays, many folks (myself included!) choose to enjoy the great outdoors – especially our friends escaping the heat of the South!  That said, sometimes a girl’s just gotta shop!  Fortunately for us and visitors to the Maine Stay Inn, there are nearly endless retail therapy opportunities right here in Kennebunkport, as well as in neighboring communities.  In fact, the closest shop

sits just two doors away.  The Home & Away Gallery sits in one of Kennebunkport’s many antique homes, this one an 1813 Colonial.  It’s native and inuit art and jewelry collection is unlike any I’ve ever encountered, and it’s a place you can always find a one-of-a-kind gift.  Plus, this weekend, you can check out the Cape Dorset Collection of Inuit prints, which will be released for sale starting Friday.

Venture another block or two from the Maine Stay, and you will find the plethora of unique shops and galleries that call Dock Square their home.  Here you’ll find everything from preppy New England clothiers and Bohemian chic boutiques, to craftsman-made home goods and modern (and reasonably priced!) silver jewelry.  And what could be better than meandering through our quaint New England streets, breathing in some crisp salt air?  Well, full shopping bags, of course!

Looking for something a bit more mainstream?  Just south of Kennebunkport lies the Kittery Outlets, where you’re sure to find what you’re looking for.  Didn’t get your fill?  Check out the outlets in Freeport, about a half an hour drive north from our Kennebunkport Bed and Breakfast, where you’ll get the perks of major outlets shopping in a town-like environment.  But if you’re in the mood to channel autumn into your shopping expedition, consider exploring the Farmer’s Market in downtown Kennebunk.  Held every Saturday from May to mid-November from 8 am to 1 pm, this market has been rated one of the top 20 in the nation for markets of this size!  Who knew?!  Well, I mean, I’m not surprised we’ve got a hidden gem on our hands…  And this weekend you can head just down the road to Ogunquit for their 9th Annual OgunquitFest, a fall festival with craft fairs and shopping opportunities not to be missed!  So grab your purse (or man-bag) and get shopping!
