Now Open: Pedro's, the Newest Kennebunk/Kennebunkport Restaurant

It may be February, but things sure are heating up in Kennebunkport Maine with the opening of Pedro’s Restaurant.  Restauranteurs, Kate

Try Pedro's for a fun bar scene!

and Pete Morency, who also run Pier 77 and the Ramp, unveiled their latest venture on Tuesday evening.  Pedro’s Restuarant is located in the former home of Port Bakery.  So while the outside looks just the same, there are no reminders of this Kennebunkport Restaurant‘s former identity.  A large cement bar, chicly decorated with red leather chairs, clusters of clear glass lights, and unimposing flat screens, greet patrons as they enter the softly lit dining room.  A slightly spicy, slightly limey aroma fills the air, mingling with the chatter of guests and Mexican music.  Yes, this is Kennenbunkport Maine!

Down to what’s really important – the food. Instead of bread, meals start with deliciously greasy (and warm!) corn chips with mild-medium salsa of the blended variety, the perfect accompaniment to the phenomenal margaritas Pedro’s bartenders whip up with fresh citrus syrups.  Don’t forget the salt!  The menu features a wide variety of options from soups and salads to tacos and burritos.  Most are fairly standard Mexican favorites, but plenty offer a Kennebunkport Maine twist – ample fresh seafood!

Chicken enchiladas at Pedro's in Kennebunkport Maine

Chicken Enchiladas Verde - Yum!

The chicken enchilada verde was well received, despite an unexpectedly lime-tinged salsa verde, and was topped with gorgeous shredded greens, fresh tomatoes, and just the right amount of cheese.  But the big winner was the taco salad in a fried tortilla bowl, with perfectly spiced pinto beans and strips of juicy steak.  Yum!

This new Kennebunkport Restaurant is a welcome addition to the local dining scene, especially as it provides a welcome alternative to traditional Maine fare when you are “lobster-ed out.” (Though I must admit, that is something I have yet to experience.)  Not to mention that it is walking distance from your favorite Kennebunkport Bed and Breakfast.  But if you’re looking for a romantic dinner or are looking forward to quiet conversation, keep looking, because you’ll be sorely disappointed.  With its youthful vibe, great decor, and full bar, Pedro’s was hoppin’ tonight and is sure to be a new hot spot in Kennebunkport Maine.

The verdict: Pedro’s is a keeper!
